The Fortis site is located OUTSIDE of the South Street Seaport Historic District, whereas the New Market Building is located INSIDE the NYS and Federal Historic District. Lower Manhattan has its tall buildings, its luxury condo residences and its plethora of new hotel rooms circling the historic district. The National Historic Trust has just named the South Street Seaport to its 2015 List of Endangered Sites.
