Financial Sarcasm Roundup For 04/27/15

"I need to remind my readers that not all veterans are homeless. I am a veteran, and I pay my rent and taxes just like the rest of you. I was never issued a begging bowl in the Army." Well, neither was I. Which war were you in? Were you a REMF like me? I was in Pleiku 1969-71, but only got fired on a few times. Were you a grunt, the real heroes? Funny, I've met quite a few vets here in Bangkok, but it seems like they were all SEAL or Green Beret or LRRP (Marines, Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol). I have only one friend who was an avionics repairman. Where are all the other clerks, truck drivers, mechanics, cooks, telephone linemen, medics? Anyway, it appears you came back from your war with all your limbs and your mental faculties intact. Do you know many homeless vets? Do you get together with them from time to time to find out how they're doing? Do you ever ask how they lost their wives, families, homes?

Perhaps Krugman’s Grandson Will Understand Government Debt
9 years ago

This whole thing is based on the false assumption that at some point in the future the government will stop borrowing and pay in full all outstanding bonds, thus destroying the entire world-wide financial system. Why they would want to do this is never stated. That is not what the rich elite will allow. Also, it ignores the fact that there are a lot of people who have piles of money they want to invest, and they are already consuming all they can. Investing (loaning money to the government now) does not mean they are consuming less. In fact one reason interest rates are so low, everywhere in the world, is because there are so many multi-billionaires desperately seeking safe financial instruments.
