Not in the least to trivialize this serious conversation - but I can't help but thing of the story of the frog and the scorpion. In this case, Hamas et al are the scorpion - refusing to accept the existence of Israel which only helps to guarantee that Israel will protect its borders, by expansion if necessary. Plus without the need to safeguard Israel, does anyone think that Donald Trump et al would take tactical nukes off the table in the Middle East?
I understand where you are coming from but I think you are being too harsh. The US foreign policy is more nuanced than that. Sure they sometimes prop up ruthless foreign governments to protect their own interests, but other times they do the opposite - like turning a blind eye to Iran's nuclear ambitions since they don't want a fight.
