How to Stay More Productive During Holiday Season

Date: Tuesday, November 28, 2017 8:26 AM EDT

Nobody wants to work during holiday season, as it is a super distracting period of the year. Many employees have plans of shopping and vacations during November and December, and they likely need to take some time off work. Since the holiday season is an ideal travel time for everyone, this can make changing responsibilities incredibly difficult.

Holiday travel plans, parties, family get-togethers and plenty of other things may distract you from work during holiday season. Staying more productive means turning your attention inward, focusing on what you need to be successful instead of thinking about festive season.

Here are some amazing tips that you can follow to stay productive during holiday season and new year.

Plan out What Needs to be Done

Staying focusing in the middle of the fully-packed holiday season can seem an intricate task, therefore implementing the 30-10 promise is an effective way. When your weeks begins, all you need to do is to find 30 minutes and carefully think about the things that need to get done in this week and then prioritize that list.

Now using a task management app, schedule all the important tasks in it. Check your task management system to see if any task didn’t get done, move it to another place and reschedule it. Having a plan means you will be less likely to fail off track by any festive and holiday distractions.

Take a Break

The holiday season is a great time of the year to take a break from work. Some research shows that taking a short break of 10-minute break can increase your productivity. So, it is advised to take advantage of the holiday season to give your brain a much-needed rest. This way you will come back to work with more energy and ready to be ultra-productive in the new year.

Take a Day Off for Shopping

While planning holiday shopping and family get-togethers, you need to find your personal calendar on your work life during the holiday season. Instead of trying to cram personal shopping into your workday, you can schedule a personal day for domestic and personal holiday preparations. This will allow you to focus 100% of your energy and efficiency on your tasks while you are at work.

Say No, when needed

Is your holiday calendar is tightly packed with holiday parties and festive events? Are you planning to attend every party or networking event? If that is the case, it can cause unnecessary stress and block your productivity.
