Fresh Controversy Surrounding Alleged Russian & US Collusion

Trump Becomes Target Once Again

Donald Trump’s presidency has once again been thrown into controversy following the launch of an investigation by the Justice Department into Russia’s alleged interference in the US elections. While the indictment delivered last week indicated that America was not knowingly involved in any collusion with Russian government or corporate agencies, (instead saying that Russia spoke with “unwitting” members of the campaign) the whole scenario has once again landed a blow to the credibility of Trump’s government. Despite last week’s indictment, the head Democrat of the House Intelligence Committee suggests that evidence of collusion between Russia and the President’s election campaign could still come to light.

The indictment was headed up by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is in charge of the federal probe into Russia’s suspected involvement in the 2016 election campaign. The investigation comes following claims by the intelligence community in October 2016, that Russia was attempting to exert influence on the outcome of the campaign under the orders of President Putin.

This alleged collusion involves a secret meeting held at Trump Towers, between the President’s son and a high level Russian lawyer, with a view to getting damaging information about Hilary Clinton, Trump’s opponent during the campaign.

Adam Schiff Leads The Criticism

Congressman Adam Schiff has been a particularly vocal critic of the President over his alleged role in this situation and says of the indictment that “It’s very clear from this 37-page indictment that this was a massive Russian operation and part of its design was to promote the campaign of Donald Trump”. Given his level of publicity, having spoken regularly to various news agencies, Mr Schiff has come under attack from the President on Twitter.

Indeed, the President’s use of twitter, which has often sparked controversy, has once again come into the limelight over the weekend following a dirge of tweets by the President who made an effort to decry the allegations against him. However, citizens and officials alike have become concerned about the generally desperate tone of these tweets as well as inconsistencies present among the President’s tweets.

Trumps Tries To Deflect Blame

“I never said Russia did not meddle in the election, I said “it may be Russia, or China or another country or group, or it may be a 400 pound genius sitting in bed and playing with his computer.” The Russian “hoax” was that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia – it never did!”

“Russia started their anti-US campaign in 2014, long before I announced that I would run for President. The results of the election were not impacted. The Trump campaign did nothing wrong – no collusion!”

“General McMaster forgot to say that the results of the 2016 election were not impacted or changed by the Russians and that the only Collusion was between Russia and Crooked H, the DNC and the Dems. Remember the Dirty Dossier, Uranium, Speeches, Emails and the Podesta Company!”

Trump has long tried to point out Hilary Clinton’s links to the Kremlin, claiming that it was she, not he, that was involved in collusion with the Russians. He has also taken the particularly strange stance of accepting that Russia might have been involved in interfering with the elections, but not at the President’s request or with his knowledge. Given the involvement of his Son and Son-in law in this scenario it seems highly unlikely that this was the case and the President’s opponents are now simply waiting on solid evidence to come forward.
