In an open email to its employees, and posted on EAT24s blog, CEO Nadav Sharon announced the acquisition of the Web based food delivery service to Yelp.

Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman penned his own piece on Yelp’s blog coinciding with Sharon’s and essentially announcing the same thing in similar style; heavy on the fanfare light on details. It’s almost as if the two planned the whole thing.

Oh, but of course they did. And planning is an important aspect of any new relationship, especially if the couple is bent on eventually bring children into the picture, which Sharon has made very clear is his intention:

“EAT24 and Yelp are soulmates, and now we are married. So let’s make babies!”

Out of the bachelor pad and into the mansion

By babies, I can only assume Sharon is referring to great new ideas, feature offerings , and of course, cradles of cash.

The two startup success stories getting together does seem like a no-brainer in hindsight. EAT24 is a niche aspect of what the pier driven recommendations service Yelp does for most urban areas.

On its own, EAT24 has gone far in mastering the food ordering and delivery sphere, supporting upwards of 20K restaurants in some 1,500 cities.

Not too shabby.

But as Sharon himself admitted in his post, joining with Yelp will rocket EAT24 to an entirely new stratosphere with a fresh user base of 130M people and 1 million restaurants nationwide to tap into.

So yes, all indications point to this being a match made in San Francisco (which many entrepreneurs mistake for heaven) and seeing them together now, the darling couple really does make quite a pair. I’m sure GrubHub could just eat them right up.

Disclosure: None.
