Google Tumbles After Missing Across The Board

Wow, bad news for #Google!

"Fess Up To Reality" - Former Google Exec Exposes Silicon Valley Hypocrisy In Scathing Essay
Cynthia Decker 10/8/2018 7:02:01 PM

I disagree. I've always thought it suspicious that tech giants like #Google and #Facebook, which have the greatest tech minds in the world working for them, can build amazing software, filters, facial recognition, search optimization, customized ad generators, translation services, and much more, but can't figure out a better way to combat fake news and hate speech. I've often suspected that either they didn't care enough, or simply didn't see the profit in it. Now that we know $GOOGL PROFITED from this behavior, it makes even more sense.

The Trump Tariff Put Will Expire Worthless
Moon Kil Woong 9/24/2018 5:06:06 AM

The market is not going up because of a #Trump put, it is going up because of the tax cut without a spending cut. This is called fiscal stimulus and it has negated the rather limited drop in monetary stimulus. If anything, the #tariffs and shenanigance in Washington over Internet regulation is holding the market back. If tariffs are cut and the trade war ends it will be a positive just like if the absurd hearings on #Twitter, #Google, and #Facebook end, that will help those stocks.

If or when this happens is debatable. Certainly if the whole market starts tanking, hopefully both of these will end and the government will focus on their job rather than creating more problems. Unfortunately, this is most likely to happen when the economy turns sour, providing limited relief, but most likely it will not turn the tide by itself.

Alphabet Betting On AI
Black Widow 7/25/2018 3:59:29 PM

While I understand that #Google has much going for it, I was a bit shocked that Wall Street completely ignored the $5.1 billion fine it was hit with for unfair practices. While I know Google is appealing, I don't expect them to win - they are guilty. And if they can no longer force phone makers to preinstall their apps, that will hurt them as well.

Should Alphabet Split Up Into Four?

Splitting up #Alphabet (aka #Google) could really benefit them by letting them focus on their core. The company truly has become too big to handle. $GOOGL

Is There A Turnaround Play At Western Digital?
Danny Straus 3/25/2018 1:51:55 AM

I'm not convinced #WesternDigital has any sort of competitive edge. I had thought they were making an impressive early foray into video streaming and turning TVs into Smart, all in one devices. But they were quickly eclipsed by #Roku, #Amazon, #Google and others. $WDC $ROKU $AMZN $GOOGL

Should Alphabet Split Up Into Four?
Henry L. Morgan 2/5/2018 4:35:36 PM

You would think that with 1.5 BILLION monthy users that YouTube has, including many paying subscribers, that there don't utilize them to help crowd-police the site, similar to Wikipedia. That coupled with #Google's own expertise in technology, it is shocking to me that Google hasn't found a better way to keep YouTube safe.

Should Alphabet Split Up Into Four?
Carol Klein 2/5/2018 4:28:53 PM

#Google is a Wall Street darling so I only expect it to go up and up. But yes, #YouTube is a problem. It has so much potential but they need to do much more to police and protect the site. And they are failing miserably at the job. YouTube truly has become too big to handle.

Komodo OpenLab: The Startup Giving Independence To The Disabled
Craig Newman 1/30/2018 1:26:14 AM

Sounds like an interesting product. But can you elaborate on how this differentiates from the advancements in voice recognition that companies like #Google, #Amazon and #Apple are making? Hard to see how you can compete with them. $GOOGL $AMZN $AAPL

Drones Vs. Balloons
Craig Newman 1/20/2018 8:30:05 PM

But can they even afford smart-phones to use the internet? Plus, the cheapest in-app purchase I've ever seen is 99 cents. Practically free for Americans, but not for people living up $2.50 per day. I still don't see how these companies can make money off this. Especially #Airbus. At least #Google and #Facebook can make some profits on increased advertising. Please enlighten me.

Drones Vs. Balloons
Alpha Stockman 1/19/2018 1:42:56 PM

Fascinating. #Zuckerberg has been very vocal about bringing internet to the world, so I was aware of their efforts, but I had no idea there was a literal race between #Facebook, #Google, and #Airbus to connect underdeveloped countries to the web. This will open countless doors for industry, innovation, education, and more.

But I'm not clear on whether these companies are pursuing this for altruistic reasons or just their bottom line. Do they hope to simply make more ad revenue or perhaps sell services to these regions (who have limited liquid cash to spend), or do they expect to make money on the drones/balloons themselves by selling the technology to those countries.

I'd love some elaboration on the "who will foot the bill" section.

Roku, Next Big Tech Flop Or Opportunity?
Ayelet Wolf 1/18/2018 11:36:31 AM

Why is #Roku any better than #Google's Chromecast or #Amazon Fire TV Stick? I've never used Roku but the I have the other two. The Fire TV Stick was far superior in my opinion, with it's dedicated voice remote. Especially if you are deeply integrated into the Amazon Echo system.

But more recently Google seems to be winning out by having it's technology already integrated into far more TV sets. Why do you think Roku will win out in the end?

Uber Reports Massive $1.5 Billion 3Q Loss As Two Investors Drop Out Of New Financing Round

The cab lobby is powerful in Israel. But I suspect this had more to do with #Waze - the Israeli GPS app purchased by #Google ($GOOGL). Waze recently started a car sharing aspect to their app and #Uber would have competed greatly with this.
