S&P 500 Price Volume Analysis - August 17, 2016
The S&P 500 closed @ 2182.22 (+4.07 / +0.19%). Volume remains weak as volume on the SPY was -22% less than its average daily trading volume.
In terms of market breadth, 190 advancers traded up in price on higher volume vs. 111 stocks advancing on declining volume. Among today’s losers, 136 stocks declined on higher volume while 55 of them closed down on lower volume.
The real volume standouts today were Urban Outfitters (URBN) which gained +15.40% since reporting earnings after Tuesday’s close. It crushed the street with a beat @ $0.66 per share vs. consensus @ $0.56. Volume was more than 500% of its average daily trading.
Other highlighted volume surgers were not so fortunate. Staples (SPLS), Target (TGT) and Lowe’s (LOW) each lost more than 5% as volume was nearly triple average daily trading liquidity.
