The average mid cap score is 61.50, which is below the four week moving average score of 63.57. The average mid cap stock is trading -17.38% below its 52 week high, 0.02% above its 200 dma, has 7.07 days to cover held short, and is expected to grow EPS by 14.58% next year.

Utilities are the top scoring mid cap sector. Healthcare, consumer goods, and services also score above average. Financials and technology score in line. Industrial goods and basics score below average.

Between January 31st and April 30th, the S&P 400 (MDY) has gained in 9 of the past years, returning a median 5.74%.

The best scoring mid cap industry is restaurants (WEN, CBRL, CAKE, BWLD, EAT). The Nat'l Restaurant Association's Restaurant Performance Index is 102.9 for December. The current expectations index has registered a reading above 100 for 10 consecutive months. The future expectations index has increased for 3 consecutive months. Specialty retail stocks (AAN, BID, SBH, OUTR) are top scoring. REITs (CBL, WRI, REG, BMR, BDN) benefit as capacity additions are leveraged against strong occupancy and effective rents for FFO growth. Gas utilities (PNY, NJR) offer and semi equipment (SPIL) round out the best scoring industry list this week.

There continue to be no mid cap basics baskets scoring above average. In consumer goods, focus on textiles (SKX, COLM, WWW). REITS and asset managers (EV, WETF, OZM) are best in financials. The top healthcare baskets are medical instruments (NUVA, HAE, DXCM, HRC) and biotech (GEVA, CRL, ITMN, ACAD, CLVS). In industrials, concentrate on industrial electrical equipment (LFUS, AOS) and residential construction (NVR, RYL).  In services, the top groups are restaurants, specialty retailers, and trucking (KNX. ODFL, HTLD). Semi equipment, technical & system software (TYL, CDNS, MENT), and computer peripherals (ZBRA, NICE) are best in technology.
