Market Briefing For Tuesday, Jan. 23

The Senate corralled enough votes to end the three-day Federal shutdown although they wouldn't be lighthearted about it, if they dare contemplate all the implications of not only Debt levels, but just debt service obligations as will become painfully evident over time as interest rates increase.

One point is that the primary impetus for reaching into even-higher S&P levels, relates not only to the Senate (and the House voting to follow along after the Democrats capitulated a bit on Immigration for now or so it seems to most) helping 'open up' the Government for now; but something else.

I'm viewing the IMF statement increasing 'global' prospects 'as a result of a series of policy and tax cuts' implemented by the United States; actually is a positive that transcends all the controversy about Trump that I contended for ages exists, but is essentially extent to how one follows the market over the past almost 15 months.

My belief for months has been that the USA was NOT surrendering global leadership as some thought was the goal; but consolidating our own home so that we can sustain the rising business and trade relationships 'fairly' as relates to so many regions, countries, and deals. Essentially the opposite it seems of so many antagonists suggested; both before and after Elections.

In sum: the fair and level global playing field joins the relief that there was a solution for the spending issue for now. And we believe that today's IMF statement on not only increasing GDP globally AS A RESULT of US policy moves is really quite amazing; and probably will have analysts raising lots of targets not just here but abroad as well. Now that may also speed the arrival of higher interest rates and more market challenges; but for just the moment market will digest this a bit (possible slight pullback after this run), and try to build-upon the move even more.

The overall market remains extended; interest is dropping down into lower risk areas (as we've noted); and small stocks viewed as relatively lower in terms of risk, are participating.
