AVX Supplies Kyocera Components Worldwide

The Technology sector includes nineteen industries ranging from communication equipment, computers, consumer electronics, and contract manufacturing, to health and information technology and services to internet, scientific instruments, software, solar and all such technological enterprises.

Today I'm reviewing a mid-cap electronic components firm.

It's name is AVX Corporation.

It's trading ticker symbol is AVX

AVX Corporation manufactures and supplies passive electronic components interconnect devices and related products including ceramic and tantalum capacitors, film capacitors, and other components. It operates mostly in Asia, and also in the Americas and Europe.

The company operates through three segments: Electronic Components; Interconnect, Sensing and Control Devices; and Kyocera Electronic Devices Resale.

The company serves various industries, from telecommunications and information technology to aerospace, defense, and consumer electronics industries. It markets its products through its direct sales force and independent manufacturers' representatives to multi-national original equipment manufacturers, independent electronic component distributors, and electronic manufacturing service providers.

The company was founded in 1972 and is headquartered in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. AVX Corporation is a subsidiary of Kyocera Corporation.

I use three key data points gauge the value of any dividend equity or fund like AVX Corporation:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

After those three, four more keys will finally unlock an equity or fund in which to invest.

However, those first three primary keys, best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

AVX Price

AVX's price per share was $18.07 at Friday's market close. A year ago its price was $17.04 for a gain of $1.03 per share.

Assuming AVX's price will trade in the range of $14 to $20 next year, its price could grow by that much again from it current $18.07 to $19.10 by July 2019.

AVX Dividends

AVX's most recent annually rising quarterly dividend was $0.115 paid June 29.

The current quarterly payout pegs the annual take at $0.46 for a yield of 2.55% at Friday's $18.07 share price.

Gains For AVX?

Adding the $0.46 annual dividend to the $1.03 potential year over year price gain makes a $1.49 projected gross annual per share gain, which will be reduced by any cost to trade these shares.

$1,000.00 invested today at the $18.07 price buys 55 shares.

A $10 broker fee paid half at purchase and half at sale costs about $0.18 per share

Subtracting that $0.18 brokerage cost from the estimated $1.49 gross gain leaves a net gain of $1.31 X 55 shares

= $83.05

or an 8.4% net gain on a $993.85 investment.

Therefore, AVX Corporation (whose ticker symbol is AVX), now shows a possible 8.4% net gain including a 2.55% dividend yield.

Two analysts cover this stock:

One says "buy" AVX.

One says "hold" AVX.

Their two analyst consensus recommendation is 2.0 or "Outperform" and their median price target is just $1.07 below the current price.

Y Charts has rated AVX "neutral' for an overall "Y" rating. Y Charts rates AVX "average" for a Value score and "strong" for a Fundamental reading. A Historic Valuation score for AVX is "2% overvalued" per Y Charts rating.

You could look at all those numbers this way, AVX Corporation has made money, is making money, and could net a 8.4% gain next year including a 2.55% annual dividend yield. It could be more, it could be less.

The above speculation is based on past year performance. Actual results remain to be seen. Results could turn out to be far higher or lower. More study is required for you to determine if AVX Corporation is worth your time and money.
