Greek Crowdfunding Campaign Raises Money Fast

greece

You might have heard about the crowdfunding campaign to raise money for Greece. The campaign has been set up by Indiegogo, an online crowdfunding platform with the mission to encourage everyone to change the world. The goal is to raise 1.6 billion euro. Although they aren’t close yet, the website is meanwhile raising 23,000 euro every hour. The difference with this crowdfunding campaign is that there are no demands for reform attached to it.

Crowdfunding Greece

On the 29th of June there was only 5,000 euro raised. A day later more than 5000 people had contributed 82,000 euro in total. Things are moving fast, as a consequence, and Indiegogo mentioned the platform was moving at 23,000 euro per hour for the campaign.

The campaign has a target of 1.6 billion dollars. When the goal isn’t reached, everyone gets their money back. If the goal is hit, however, the creator of the campaign, a 29-year old, will donate all the money to the Greek population. The Indiegogo campaign states that Greece needs 1.6 billion euro, which seems a lot, but it is only a bit more than 3 euro per European. That 3 euro will also get you a card of Alex Tsipras, the Greek prime minister.

Greek Donors

It must be clear that the 1.6 billion target will not be reached in due time, although the donations were accelerating. To encourage donors, however, the website did collect information about the most generous countries. 167 countries have donated money at the time of writing with the UK in the lead. Then wefind Germany, France, the United States, and Spain. 7 out of 10 donors are male.
