Aussie And Kiwi Advance Vs Greenback; Yen Weakens Ahead Of BoJ Minutes

The Aussie and Kiwi advanced on the greenback Tuesday, but the gain is expected to be short-term.The greenback has recovered following the Fed’s decision to hold rates. AUD/USD is up 0.42% while the NZD/USD is up 0.32%.

The Federal Reserve’s decision to keep interest rates the same gave relief to investors going into October. The latest meeting hinted at a potential December rate hike, with polls suggesting a 55% chance of a rate hike going into the New Year. Positive jobs data further strengthened the possibility of a rate hike.

USD/JPY inched up 0.04%. The yen weakened slightly as investors await the Bank of Japan’s latest minutes. The United States presidential debate further weighed on the currency.

Japan’s corporate service price index will release the year-on-year results for August. Analysts expect the index to inch up 0.3%. The latest minutes from the BoJ meeting are also expected to be released. Economists will comb through the minutes for hints of any future policy measures that may be taken.

Overnight, the dollar struggled to maintain ground against a basket of other currencies. Positive home sales data will reflect on the greenback going forward in the week. New home sales declined just 7.6% compared to an expected decline of 8.8%.

July’s new home sales figures were revised upward to 659,000 units compared to 654,000 units as previously reported.

The yen also struggled on the Fed’s decision to maintain the current interest rates.

Haruhiko Kuroda of the Bank of Japan raised sentiment on Monday after the announcement that the BoJ will use every tool available in an effort to return the country’s inflation rate to 2%. The BoJ is mulling over additional stimulus measures after the bank targeted government bond interest rates last week in a surprise move.

EUR/USD is down 0.35%, while the GDP/USD is up slightly at 1.2986, or a 0.08% gain.
