Daily Stock Pick: Dorel Industries

This week, I'm seeking the second robust dividend-paying stock from the consumer cyclical business sector for my Ivy portfolio.

That cyclicals sector includes twenty-eight industries ranging from Advertising Agencies to Apparel, Autos, Broadcasting, Department Stores, Gambling, Leisure, Lodging, Packaging, Personal Services, Shoes, Restaurants, Rubber, Plastics, Textiles, and all such consumer aimed enterprises.

Today I'm reviewing a small-cap home furnishings and fixtures company, named Dorel Industries Inc. Its trading ticker symbol is DIIBF.

Dorel Industries Inc is a consumer products company. It designs, manufactures or sources, markets and distributes a portfolio of product brands, marketed through Dorel Juvenile, Dorel Sports and Dorel Home segments, worldwide.

The Dorel Juvenile segment engages in the design, sourcing, manufacturing, distribution, and retail of children's accessories.

The Dorel Sports segment offers recreational and leisure products, and accessories comprising bicycles, jogging strollers, scooters, and other recreational products under the Cannondale, Schwinn, GT, Mongoose, Caloi, Roadmaster, Iron Horse, and SUGOI brand names.

The Dorel Home segment provides ready-to assemble furniture and home furnishings. This segment markets its products under the Ameriwood, Altra, System Build, Ridgewood, DHP, Dorel Fine Furniture, Dorel Living, Signature Sleep, Baby Relax, and Cosco brands.

The company sells its products to mass merchant discount chains, department stores, club format outlets, and hardware/home centers; Internet retailers, independent boutiques and juvenile specialty stores; and sporting goods chains.

It also owns and operates 110 retail stores in Chile and Peru, as well as various factory outlet retail locations in Europe and Australia.

The company was formerly known as Dorel Co. Ltd. and changed its name to Dorel Industries Inc. in May 1987.

Dorel Industries Inc. was founded in 1962 and is headquartered in Westmount, Canada.

I use three key data points to gauge the value of any dividend equity or fund like Dorel Industries Inc.:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Besides those three, four more keys will finally unlock an equity or fund in which to invest.

But those first three primary keys, best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

DIiBF Price

Dorel's price per share was $14.05 at Friday's market close. A year ago its price was $23.59 for a price decrease of $9.54 per share for the year, that's a  40% tumble.

Assuming Dorel's price will trade in the range of $10 to $24  next year, Dorel's recent $14.05 price could improve by $5.00 and grow to $19.05 by late-November, 2019.

DIIBF Dividends

Dorel's most recent quarterly dividend was $0.30 declared November 2nd and payable this week, November 30th.

That $0.30 quarterly stipend equates to an annual amount of $1.20 yielding 8.5% at Friday's closing $14.05 price.

Gains For DIIBF?

Adding the $1.20 annual dividend to my estimated $5.00 annual price upside for Dorel Industries Inc. adds up to a $6.20 potential gross annual per share gain, which will be reduced by costs to trade the shares.

A little under $1,000.00 invested today at the $14.05 recent price buys 71 DIIBF shares.

A $10 broker fee paid half at purchase and half at sale costs us $0.14 per share

Subtracting that $0.14 brokerage cost from the estimated $6.20 gross annual gain leaves a net gain of $6.06 X 71 shares

= $430.26

for a 43% net gain on a $997.55 investment.

Therefore, Dorel Industries Inc, whose trading ticker symbol is DIIBF, now shows a possible 43% net gain including a 8.5% dividend yield.

No brokers cover this stock:

I've no comparative notes to mind.

No Wall Street wizards to doubt my estimates.

Therefore, you may look at these speculative numbers as follows: Dorel Industries Inc, whose trading ticker symbol is DIIBF, has made money, is making money, and could net a 30 to 45% net annual gain including an 8.5% dividend yield. It could be more, it could be less.

The above speculation is based on past year performance. The actual results remain to be seen to determine if Dorel Industries Inc is worth your time and money.
